On Wednesday, September 10th, right-wing political activist and media personality Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck by a single bullet and killed. The shooting took place at approximately 12.20 P.M. at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Charlie was attending the university to speak at a debate being hosted by his non-profit organization, Turning Point USA. This debate was scheduled as the first event of his American Comeback Tour. This nationwide campus tour was aimed at educating students on their right to free speech and promoting the principles of right-wing politics. The event was attended by roughly three thousand people, which included his wife, Erika Frantzve, and two children, ages one and three. Upon being shot, he was quickly rushed to the hospital in a private vehicle, where he was then pronounced dead. This was announced officially in a post to Truth Social about two hours later by President Donald J. Trump.

The shooter is suspected to have been located on the roof of the Losee Center building within one to two hundred yards from the event. On Wednesday evening, the 10th, two suspects were detained by police officials but were both released shortly after as it was determined they were not connected to the shooting. On Thursday, September 11th, the FBI of Salt Lake City posted photos on X of a potential suspect in sunglasses and dark clothing. The caption read “We are asking for the public's help identifying this person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University." On the same day, the FBI made an additional public post offering a reward of up to $100,000 for any information that would lead to the identification and arrest of the shooter. The following day, an individual by the name of Tyler Robinson was taken into custody. Officials suspect him to be Charlie Kirk’s killer after his father identified him in the photos posted by the FBI. Tyler’s dad relayed his suspicions to a family friend, who then reached out and informed the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Tyler Robinson is currently being held in a Utah jail without bail on several charges, including aggravated murder.
